Rio Tinto agrees to buy Arcadium Lithium for $6.7bn

Rio offered $5.85 a share in cash, a 90% premium to Arcadium’s price before the approach was reported. The deal closed in March 2025.

Why it matters. Buying at the bottom of a price cycle can justify a premium that looks high against the market price.
