Vale’s Brumadinho dam collapses

A tailings dam at Vale’s Córrego do Feijão mine in Brazil failed, killing about 270 people. Vale said the collapse happened too fast for warning sirens to sound.

Why it matters. The disaster led to the 2020 GISTM tailings standard and changed how investors value mining risk.
