BHP and Billiton complete their merger
BHP Limited and Billiton Plc combined as a dual-listed company with identical boards and a single management team. The group had an enterprise value of about US$38bn at completion.

Why it matters. A dual-listed structure let a merger happen without either side giving up its home listing, a template for later cross-border mining deals.
